Outdoor living additions can bring comfort during fall
Backyards and patios don’t have to lose their charm once summer fades. Fall brings cooler weather and changing leaves that are perfect for spending time outside with family and friends.
As such, it’s no surprise 86% of home buyers rank a patio as a desirable feature of a new home, according to NAHB analysis. With a few seasonal touches, you can enjoy crisp autumn air while making the most of your outdoor space. Here are a few ideas to spruce up your home’s outdoor space this fall.
Install pathway lighting. As the days get shorter, additional lighting becomes more important for enjoying time outdoors. Adding lighting along a walkway or seating area is functional and creates an atmosphere to enjoy fall evenings. According to NAHB analysis, 82% of home buyers rank outdoor lighting as a desirable feature of a home. Simple solar lights or low-voltage options can be easily installed to spend time outdoors after the sun sets.
Upgrade to long-lasting outdoor furniture. Comfort and durability go hand in hand when it comes to outdoor furniture in the fall. Weather-resistant cushions and materials are designed to withstand the elements while making your space inviting for guests. Choosing durable, weatherproof pieces reduces maintenance and replacement needs and ensures your furniture stays ready for use throughout the fall.
Firepits for cozy evenings. A firepit can instantly transform your backyard into your family’s favorite gathering spot. As an easy, cost-effective way to bring warmth to your space, nearly 59% of home buyers want an outdoor fireplace, up 10% since 2003. Firepits can be portable or built-in, making them a versatile option for almost any outdoor space.
Add a water feature. To complement other fall additions, an outdoor water feature can add a calming element to your space. A small fountain or waterfall can be free-standing and solar powered to require minimal maintenance. Paired with proper fall landscaping, a water feature even becomes a focal point of your outdoor space.
Consider an outdoor kitchen. If you’re open to a larger project, an outdoor kitchen can turn your patio into a true extension of your home. From built-in grills to counters and storage, outdoor kitchens are increasingly popular among homeowners looking to combine cooking and entertaining. Today, 19% more home buyers rank an outdoor kitchen as essential or desirable than 10 years ago. It’s an investment that allows you to host family and friends without missing out on the fresh air and colorful backdrop of fall.
With just a few changes, your backyard or patio can seamlessly shift from a summer hangout to an autumn retreat. For more ideas or to find a professional who can help you create your favorite outdoor living space, contact [email protected].
