NEW YORK, NY – Humanscale has partnered with Danish textile manufacturer Kvadrat Really to introduce circular, textile-based tabletops to the U.S. market for the first time. The Kvadrat Really Textile Tabletop™ is composed of 70% discarded textiles and 30% waste binder sourced from the fashion and textile industries, laundries, and Kvadrat’s own offcuts.
Through a fully mechanical process powered by renewable energy, Kvadrat Really converts textile waste into durable, high-performance surfaces that are scratch-resistant, heat-tolerant, and fully recyclable. The tabletops offer a 30% reduction in carbon emissions compared to conventional surfaces and divert significant volumes of textile waste from landfills. In 2024, Kvadrat Really repurposed 550 tonnes of textile waste into new tabletops, equivalent to recycling approximately 70 shirts or 30 pairs of jeans per 80×160 cm surface.
“Partnering with Kvadrat Really allows us to bring truly circular innovation to one of our most widely used product categories,” said Jane Abernethy, Chief Sustainability Officer of Humanscale. “By integrating recycled textiles into our desks, we’re reducing waste at scale while offering clients a surface that’s as durable as it is sustainable.”
The Kvadrat Really Textile Tabletop™ is available with Humanscale’s eFloat Go 2.0 and eFloat Next desk ranges, with additional integrations planned for Float Gather, Float Mini, Float Micro, and eFloat Quattro. The tabletops are offered in Cotton White with impact-resistant ABS edges, designed for contemporary workspaces.
This initiative aligns with Humanscale’s focus on regenerative design and material transparency. Each material used in its products is evaluated to 100 parts per million to eliminate chemicals of concern, with ingredient information publicly available through Declare labels and Health Product Declarations. The collaboration also reflects a shared commitment to UN Global Goal #17: Partnerships for the Goals, reinforcing both companies’ dedication to circular design and responsible manufacturing.
With global textile production projected to reach 145 million tons by 2030, the partnership represents a step toward reducing the industry’s environmental impact. The Kvadrat Really collection is available through Humanscale showrooms and online at www.humanscale.com.
