Design experts say wood is a good material for a table due to its adaptability and longevity.
‘First up and probably the most important factor in picking a durable dining table is the quality of materials,’ explains Sam Deeble, furniture specialist at Woods Furniture. ‘Tables made from solid hardwoods like oak, maple or walnut are incredibly durable, can be repaired if needed, and actually look better as they age. If you want a table that’ll go the distance, I’d steer clear of particleboard or MDF; they just don’t have the same staying power as solid hardwood.’
He also says that wood tables are a safe buy, as they will truly never go out of style.
‘With so many inspiring interior trends, it can be tempting to choose furniture that fits a particular style of the moment,’ he says. ‘However, when selecting a dining table, it’s wise to opt for classic designs in neutral colours as they’re more likely to withstand changing trends and stay timeless. Styles like traditional, mid-century modern, or rustic have enduring appeal, making them a solid choice if you’re looking for a piece that won’t feel outdated over time.’
