Your outdoor dining table is the prime gathering spot for Thursday night book clubs, Friday night wine and cheese hangs, or an impromptu Saturday barbecue. Not to mention, if you WFH some days, working on a proper table is much better than having your laptop heat up and burn your legs while you sit on an outdoor sectional. Finding the right outdoor table requires some research, though: You’ll want to pay attention to the size, material, and, of course, seating arrangement if you plan to host big groups.
To help you with your search, we curated several editor-tested and highly reviewed outdoor dining tables that vary in size, price, and style below. Take a peek at our favorites on the market, and if you see a table you love, quickly add it to your cart! The sooner it arrives, the sooner you can set it up and sit outdoors 24/7.

Best Overall Outdoor Dining Table
Castlery Rio Outdoor Build-Your-Own Dining Set

Now 5% Off
Are you wondering if Castlery furniture is actually good? The answer is yes! Our editors have bought a few pieces from the home brand, and they do not disappoint, including their outdoor pieces. “Now that I have an outdoor deck area, I got this six-seater table for summer and could not be happier with it,” Senior Commerce Editor Marina Liao says. “I was looking for an aluminum set because I knew I’d be too lazy to upkeep teak/wood furniture the way it needs, and this one from Castlery has held up so well despite all the rain we’ve had in New York City. The chairs came with white cushions, but I removed them for now due to the unpredictable weather, and they’re actually comfortable to sit on sans cushions. I had friends over last month, and we sat on the chairs from 11 p.m. until 1 a.m. without any pain! I love how easy all the pieces are to clean, and there is a hole in the middle of the table for an umbrella when the sun finally beams down on us. I’m really impressed by the quality of this outdoor dining set and know I’ll have it for years to come.” If you want the wood look, the Rio set also comes in teak, and that option has a bench if you prefer that to chairs.

Commerce Writer Sarah Maberry loves this foldable option from Winston Porter. “As an apartment dweller, space is a luxury, so I love that both the table and chairs can fold up any time I need extra space. Plus, it makes it super easy to store in the winter,” Maberry says. “It’s lightweight enough that I’ve pulled it inside for extra seating during dinner parties, too.” If you’re in a hurry to enjoy your outdoor space, know that this set, which includes a table and two matching chairs, comes with free one-day shipping. It also ships fully assembled, so there’s no need to break out your toolkit.

Best Stone Outdoor Dining Table
Serena & Lily Terrace Round Dining Table

Now 20% Off
If you want a sturdy and heavy-looking round table, we have just the pick. “I love this table. I have had it on the patio of my Boca Raton home for almost three years now. The top is technically stone, but it looks and feels like concrete,” tester Lisa Eisenberg says. That said, it’s not concrete; it’s porous stone, so you may want to grab a trivet if you’re serving a hot dish on your table. “I am not super precious with it, but I have noticed a few barely-there hairline fractures, which look more like patina than damage,” Eisenberg adds. This table is also available in multiple sizes and colors. “It is so elegant and fits quite a few chairs around it. Normally, I have five, but seven can easily fit around it if I have people over. I just made sure to buy chairs without bulging arms.”

Best Outdoor Dining Table for Large Gatherings
Palladio Reclaimed Teak Dining Table

This reclaimed teak dining table is a beautiful, rustic piece that looks like it came straight out of the French countryside. “Our designer actually found this table at the Terrain outlet outside Philadelphia last summer—score! There’s a seven-foot version and a 10-foot version; we went with the 10-foot one because my husband has a big family, and it’s not unusual for us to have 12 people over for dinner,” says former Senior Features Editor Elyse Moody. “The teak spent last summer and fall outdoors before we moved it in for the winter (note: it’s super solid and heavy, so this might be a three-person job), and it’s weathering nicely.” If you’re trying to choose a wood that will fare well outside, teak is definitely a good pick because it’s naturally extremely durable.

Best Low-Maintenance Outdoor Dining Table
Summer Classics Brookside Aluminum Dining Table

Now 99% Off
“When my parents moved to Asheville, North Carolina, they made it their priority to create an indoor-outdoor space, starting with this covered deck that sits just outside the kitchen,” Associate Shopping Editor Jessica Cherner says. “There is a sitting area, a fireplace, a grill, and, of course, a place to gather. This dining table looks like super-smooth wood, but it’s actually aluminum, making it ideal for an outdoor area. Though the dark color would pair well with any chairs, my parents opted for the matching ones to make the dining space look a bit more cohesive,” she adds. Get it with a hole for a patio umbrella or leave it covered, depending on your space and your needs.

Best Outdoor Dining Table Set
Yita Home Outdoor Dining Set
Sometimes buying things in a set is the best solution. Case in point: this four-piece outdoor dining set that includes a single L-shaped sectional, a dining table, and two low stools. They go together, but not so much that it looks contrived. “Super happy with these pieces, from the table to the size of the sectional to the little ottoman stools. It’s cozy and lightweight, but it’s very sturdy. I can move it all over my patio by myself,” a happy customer said. “Assembly is not hard, but made much easier with a hex drill bit.”

How We Chose the Best Outdoor Dining Tables

As with any furniture story, we like to ask our editors and extended network for their tried-and-true recommendations, so we rounded up several outdoor dining tables our own staff have and love. The criteria were that it had to be durable, stylish, and worth the money. For any pieces that did not pass through our hands, we turned to the brands and retailers we know and trust for options, reading through all the reviews and ratings to select only the best of the best for inclusion in this story. No matter which retailer you choose to shop, you can rest assured that, if it’s on this list, it comes highly recommended by design enthusiasts.
What to Look for When Buying an Outdoor Dining Table?

Material: Though there are a couple of factors to consider when shopping for outdoor furniture, material is arguably the most important one. If you get a dining table that isn’t made to hold up to the elements, you’ll notice it falls apart quicker than it should. Luckily, all of the tables on our list are made to survive the outdoors, so you won’t have to worry about them degrading—but if you want the most weather-resistant material, go with teak or concrete. Both materials are naturally durable and can withstand pretty much everything. Another material that has managed to captivate the design community is Polywood. “Polywood is a great option for outdoor furniture due to its extreme durability. It’s a composite material composed of recycled and reusable plastics, made to look like wood,” interior designer Steven Graffam explains. “It is weather-resistant and very easy to maintain, making it a great option for outdoor environments.”
Size: Size is more of a personal preference than material because the lifespan of your table won’t really be impacted if you have a two-person bistro table or a 12-person farm table. “Overall, size is often the first determining factor when configuring the layout of both outdoor living and dining spaces,” designer John Stivale adds.

What Is the Most Durable Material for Outdoor Dining Tables?

You can’t go wrong with wood, metal, resin, or, of course, Polywood as they’re all made to last and hold up in even the most inclement weather. “There are so many durable materials now available for outdoor dining tables; the options are truly endless. From teak to synthetic rattan, and from powder-coated metal to composites of all colors, there are amazing options,” Graffam notes. “In selecting the most durable table for your environment, you should consider both the climate and how often the dining table will be utilized. For example, in coastal environments surrounded by salt water and high humidity levels, we find that cast fiber-cement or concrete tables are most durable to battle the elements.”
Can You Put an Indoor Dining Table Outside?

The simple answer: no. Though you can definitely use an outdoor table inside, you can rarely use an indoor table outside because it’s not designed to withstand the elements. Depending on where you live, you’ll be exposing your table to everything from intense rain to desert heat, which will definitely contribute to its demise. The good news, though, is that there are so many outdoor tables out there, so you can likely find what you’re looking for. Otherwise, hold out until you find it. There’s no harm in slow decorating, especially if it’s something you’re investing in. Plus, outdoor dining tables are made with outdoor-friendly materials and also finished in an extra protective layer, two elements that don’t usually come with indoor-only tables.
