The 13 Best Places to Buy Patio Furniture in 2025

The 13 Best Places to Buy Patio Furniture in 2025

The best patio furniture is comfortable, weather-resistant, and sturdy enough to withstand the elements. It should also elevate your deck or patio entertaining space and complement your gas grill, smoker, or other outdoor cooking setup. Since sifting through the endless options while shopping online can feel daunting, we tapped interior designers and looked through our favorites to determine the best places to buy patio furniture.

Design experts shared some of their personal favorite outdoor furniture pieces, from outdoor bar carts to washable rugs, and responded to our burning questions, like when it’s the best time of year to shop for patio furniture and what materials are their personal favorites.

Credit: Wayfair

From sofas to bunk beds, Wayfair covers all kinds of furniture, and its outdoor offerings are incredibly extensive. There are thousands of items from dozens of brands, but the Wayfair website makes it easy to sort through what’s available. Every category is broken down by size, shape, materials, and color, and you can even set a custom price range down to individual numbers of dollars.

Wayfair sells anything you could want, with a full range of prices and luxury levels: There’s a $23,000 pergola, an under-$200 sofa, and everything in between. Shipping is usually very fast, unlike many other furniture retailers, and delivery options range from curbside drop-off to full white glove assembly.

The downside with such a large selection is that Wayfair items also range in quality. We’ve found lots of great stuff, but because there are so many different manufacturers represented, we can’t promise that every item on the site will be a winner.

Credit: Pottery Barn

As its name suggests, Pottery Barn generally has a rustic, farmhouse aesthetic. There’s a wide selection of patio furniture in many colors and materials, but all of it shares a similar casual, relaxed feel, perfect for outdoor entertaining. Pottery Barn is a great place to find tables and chairs made from weather-resistant woods like teak, acacia, and eucalyptus, along with high-quality upholstery and fabrics — the brand makes our favorite patio umbrella.

If you’re having trouble picking out just the right items, you can even book a free design appointment to discuss goals and budget, and get personalized recommendations, either online, in-store, or in-home.

Pottery Barn furniture is on the somewhat pricey side, though, especially with shipping. Even basic delivery adds hundreds of dollars to the cost of large items.

Credit: Frontgate

Looking to upgrade your patio to a new level of luxury? Frontgate is the place to go. Outdoor furniture is the brand’s main focus, and it lets you customize its array of tables and chairs to fit every style and space. Accessories like planters, furniture covers, and patio umbrellas help bring the complete look together. Lauren Farrell, senior interior designer at Pacaso, loves the resin wicker and teak used in Frontgate’s Isola 7-piece Round Dining Set.

“When it comes to outdoor furniture, it can be difficult to find the perfect marriage between form and function, especially because durability is important in this instance,” Farrell says. “This set is light and breathable, whereas a lot of outdoor furniture can come off visually heavy, making it a great option to have. Teak wears beautifully and does not compromise the aesthetic of your home.”

As a helpful bonus, you can order free fabric swatches to help pick the best color and material for your space. Given the high price of Frontgate’s furniture, it’s good to be sure you’ve made the right choice before you invest.

Credit: Crate & Barrel

Crate & Barrel makes many of our favorite cooking and serving supplies, from inexpensive wine glasses to paper towel holders. And its outdoor furniture is also pretty food-focused, with lots of dining sets alongside sofas that let guests sit up to enjoy drinks and snacks, plus an outdoor bar cart that’s our number-one pick.

“A comfy outdoor sofa is a must for summer lounging and hosting guests,” says Deni + Dove Interiors founder Olma Fuentes, who recommends the Abaco Chaise Outdoor Sectional Sofa.  “This gorgeous sectional hits all the marks in terms of style, comfort, and durability. Made of aluminum, resin wicker, and Sunbrella acrylic — all incredibly weather-resistant materials — this sofa was specifically built to last and to withstand the elements,” she says. The Abaco also offers 11 different seating configurations to fit any deck or patio space.

Patio furniture from Crate & Barrel runs the gamut of styles, with modern, minimalist, and old-fashioned looks available. That’s both good and bad, as you might suffer from decision paralysis digging through all the options. If you’re sure about your specific aesthetic, you can find a brand that specializes in it.

Credit: Castlery

Fire up Castlery’s furniture configurator tool for a taste of just how customizable its sofas are. You can assemble modular pieces to make the ideal sectional for your space, drag in some matching coffee tables, and see the whole thing in 3D before adding everything to your cart all at once.

Castlery’s patio offerings include huge dining tables for summertime parties, cozy bistro sets, and everything in between. We love the search options to filter chairs by seat comfort and softness level — you can specify whether you prefer to recline and how thick a cushion you want.

There are Castlery items on our lists of the best dining room tables and best dining chairs, and it’s a great place to look for beds and dressers, too. In truth, the brand is mostly focused on indoor furniture. Its outdoor options are excellent, but you don’t have as long a list to browse as with some other retailers.

Credit: Yardbird

Yardbird makes only outdoor furniture, with weatherproof options in aluminum, wicker, and teak. You can build any set you want, with options for sofas, loveseats, lounges, chairs, coffee tables, dining tables, and fire pits.

Fuentes loves Yardbird’s Eden loveseat set, which also comes with two swivel chairs and a coffee table. “This set is the perfect addition to your outdoor space for when you’re looking to create a more intimate, cozy seating area. The swivel rocking chairs bring a fun, playful element and you can relax and rest easy knowing you won’t have to do much in terms of maintenance — the furniture is designed to mimic the appearance of teak, but is made of highly durable Sunbrella fabric and rust-proof aluminum, making it ideal for outdoor use.”

There are 12 Yardbird styles to choose from for each of the individual pieces, but we feel like they’re all a little same-y: The collections differ only in small details and come in a limited range of neutral colors. If you’re looking for furniture that’s a little wild or unusual, you might want to look elsewhere.

Credit: Neighbor

Like Yardbird, Neighbor also specializes in outdoor furniture and has durable items available in teak, aluminum, or wicker. But its tables, chairs, and sofas have a more distinctive, design-forward feel, as well as some eye-catching pastel colorways for frames and fabrics.

Farrell recommends the Roundabout sectional because of its deep seats and sturdy aluminum frame for comfort and style. “This piece is great because it’s comfortable, durable, and brings texture into the space,” she says. “We love the versatility of having custom options when it comes to size and orientation.”

Neighbor’s furniture looks amazing and will last for many years, and it’s priced accordingly. None of this stuff is cheap; even single chairs start at $700 each.

Credit: Outer

Another brand that makes furniture exclusively for outdoors, Outer is all about sustainability and durability. Its teak items are made from FSC-certified wood, and its water-, stain-, fade-, and mold-resistant fabrics are recyclable. We love its OuterShells, clever integrated covers that protect cushions and tabletops, and then roll or fold away with ease.

Outer’s collection of sofas, tables, and chairs has a modern but relaxed feel. They’re both striking to look at and comfortable to lounge in. There’s not a long list of styles, but all are customizable with a variety of fabrics and colors. Many items are also modular, with matching sets of sofas, loveseats, and chairs you can use to build a custom-shaped sectional. There are also a few accessories like rugs, throw pillows, and covers, as well as a bug-repellent blanket that might be a miracle for mosquito-infested yards.

This patio furniture is high-quality stuff that costs a lot of money. But you can expect it to last a good long time. Outer furniture carries 5- and 10-year warranties against cracking, loosening joints, and even color fading in the fabrics.

Credit: Ikea

Comfortable and stylish seating for your patio doesn’t have to break the bank. In the Revskär 3-seat conversation set, there’s an integrated side table plus a coffee table, so your food and drinks are never far. “This piece is a good option for small outdoor spaces. As we all know, outdoor furniture can break the bank, but this is a great low-cost option,” Farrell says.

IKEA is known for its low-priced furniture and space-saving Scandinavian design, and we think smaller outdoor items are where it excels most. The Askholmen patio set is another of our favorites, a two-person table-and-chairs set that can fold up and disappear into a closet or under a bed when needed.

IKEA is also known for its flat-pack, assemble-it-yourself furniture, which saves on price but might cost you time and frustration. The larger and more complicated the item, the more effort you’ll have to expend putting it together.

Credit: Joss & Main

Joss & Main sells eye-catching, colorful outdoor items of all kinds, with a huge selection of tables and chairs you can filter by design style. Whether you want a beachy, Bohemian, midcentury, farmhouse, or nautical look, this brand can help.

We’re especially impressed with the accessory options. While other brands have barely a handful of rugs and pillows, Joss & Main carries more than 800 planters, umbrellas, doormats, and lots more to match your furniture. There’s also outdoor lighting, something few other furniture brands sell, with more than 200 choices for built-in fixtures or plug-in string lights.

Much of Joss & Main’s patio furniture isn’t expensive, though there is a fairly wide range. Our biggest issue is that most of it will take weeks to arrive. A few items are available for immediate shipping, but if you turn on the fast delivery toggle in the site search, it’ll drastically reduce your selection.

Credit: West Elm

A sibling brand to both Williams Sonoma and Pottery Barn, West Elm sells furniture with a bit more modern feel. Fuentes is a fan of its Portside line, which includes chaise lounges, coffee tables, dining sets, and lots more. “With its earthy hues and coastal-like feel, it embodies outdoor comfort and was designed for ultimate relaxation,” she says. “The sleek lounges and tables make it the perfect complement to a poolside retreat, and the moisture-resistant material will help protect your wares from water damage.”

While you’re shopping, don’t miss the outdoor accessory section. West Elm makes some of our favorite outdoor dinnerware, outdoor tablecloths, and unbreakable drinkware — all of which you’ll need to throw unforgettable patio parties.

As with Pottery Barn, West Elm’s shipping rates on furniture are fairly high. Make sure to check the total price including delivery if you’re comparing options from other retailers.

Credit: AllModern
Pros
  • If you’re looking for midcentury, minimalist, or Scandinavian style, this is the place.

The name pretty much tells you everything you need to know: Allmodern sells all modern furniture. That encompasses a variety of looks, but the site has a clear aesthetic rather than offering a little bit of everything.

With an extensive collection furniture, Allmodern is on our lists of the best indoor dining chairs and tables as well as outdoor bistro sets and patio dining sets. Don’t miss its porch swing section, which includes several variations on the egg-shaped hanging chair you find at fancy spas, hotels, and airport lounges.

Just don’t look for old-fashioned or traditional furniture here.

Credit: Ruggable

Ruggable makes dealing with floor coverings easy, indoors and out. Its rugs and pads are designed to be interchangeable so you can swap in new looks whenever you like, and almost every rug is machine-washable. That’s a special advantage for outdoor rugs, which are apt to wind up pretty filthy.

The outdoor rug selection from Ruggable includes solid colors, abstract patterns, and prints, all available in at least five different sizes and shapes — rectangular, runner, and sometimes round. Many are woven of Re-Jute, a durable material made from recycled plastic. The outdoor rugs can hold up to rain and sun without fading, and any can be laid down just as easily inside.

The only negative is that Ruggable rugs are comparatively expensive. You might be able to find a cheaper outdoor rug elsewhere, but nobody has as wide a selection.

Factors to Consider

Patio Furniture Materials

If a table or chair is made to live outside, it has to use a material that can hold up to the sun, rain, and wide temperature changes. Many common materials for indoor furniture just won’t work: Steel can rust and corrode, and many types of wood will crack and warp if left out in the elements.

Aluminum, which is lighter than steel and doesn’t rust as readily, is often used for patio furniture, as are weather-resistant woods like teak, acacia, and eucalyptus. Other materials that don’t absorb water, including plastic, glass, and sealed concrete, are also good picks. These vary in cost, weight, and fragility, all of which should come into consideration for your space.

Patio Furniture Maintenance

Yes, patio furniture should be able to stand up to weather, but it will stay in prime condition longer if you give it some protection from the harshest conditions. An outdoor furniture cover is a good idea for long-term storage in the winter or during storms. It keeps things dry and shielded from the sun, and it protects surfaces from dust and spiderwebs, making them easier to clean when you’re ready to use them. Wooden furniture may benefit from regular oiling — a yearly rubdown helps keep the wood fibers soft and prevents cracking.

It’s always a good idea to check the instructions for specific recommendations on how to keep your outdoor furniture in tip-top shape. You’ll often find directions for deep-cleaning and suggestions about when and how to tighten screws and lubricate springs. If you live somewhere that gets below freezing in the winter, it might be a good idea to store patio furniture in the garage or other insulated area during the coldest part of the year. Ice can damage wood and crack plastic or glass.

Patio Furniture Delivery and Assembly

Having a table or sofa shipped to you isn’t quite as simple as receiving a small box from FedEx or UPS. The retailer will usually give you a delivery date ahead of time, and you’ll need to be home and have your space prepared. There are often multiple delivery price levels, which can range from the shipper leaving the boxed item on the curb to “white glove” service that involves bringing the set out to your patio, removing all the packaging, and putting everything together for you. Regardless of the delivery method, shipping for furniture can be quite expensive, so make sure to consider the full final price, including delivery.

You may need to do some assembly yourself with patio furniture, which might mean attaching one piece to another or completely building it from the ground up. Self-assembly shouldn’t ever be all that complicated, but you might need the help of a second person and a screwdriver or other basic tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • When is the best time of year to buy patio furniture?

Ready for a patio makeover? Interior stylist Cassandra LaValle says to think ahead. “I recommend shopping for outdoor items around February or March when most major retailers have items ready to ship. April and May will work too, but come summer, it is usually harder (if not impossible) to get items quickly.”

If you’re on the hunt for a good deal and aren’t in a rush, LaValle says shopping in “early spring and end of summer is when you’ll usually see sales for outdoor furniture and goods.”

  • What’s the best material for patio furniture?

The best outdoor patio furniture for you might not be suitable for someone else, but one of the best ways to start narrowing down your selection is looking at the weather in your area during patio season.

With that in mind, LaValle says that “Polywood, powder-coated metal, or teak are my go-to materials, as I know they can withstand most weather conditions and have longevity. Selecting a style for your outdoor furniture is no different than choosing that for an interior. Just as the architecture of a home can inform the design of a room, the garden should inform the design of your patio, deck, or balcony.”

Interior designer Laura Hodges also looks to teak as an option for most climates and suggests keeping it protected with an outdoor furniture cover when it’s not in use to maintain the integrity of wood and the color. “Teak wood can always be oiled, but keeping it covered will also protect the cushions,” she says.

  • How much should I expect to spend on a patio set?

The cost of a patio set will largely depend on the level of quality or brand you choose, but also how many items are in your set. “I would consider a mid-range patio set consisting of a four-person lounge space to be in the range of $8,000-$10,000,” Hodges says. “If you add in dining furniture as well, you would be more like $15,000-$20,000.”
