Hotel Room Themes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons are essentially guidelines for what kind of look you should give a specific room in the Resort Hotel.
Creativity is definitely the name of the game when it comes to decorating Hotel Rooms in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. There are very little restrictions on what you can do in each room, and Themes are there to help you if you’re not sure where to start.
On that note, here’s our page explaining Hotel Room Themes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, including VIP Rooms.
Animal Crossing New Horizons Hotel Room Themes explained
Hotel Room themes in New Horizons are concepts to design individual room around at the Resort Hotel at the end of your pier. For your first room, Leilani will give you a theme and then you’ll be able to choose a theme from varying amounts of options as you progress through the Hotel.
Basic room themes
Room themes are as easy as that, you choose the theme and then pick out furniture, wallpaper, flooring, accessories and equipment with that theme in mind. If you’re stuck, then Leilani will always have recommended furniture in the recommendations tab, which you can access by pressing the right button on your directional pad.

For example, your first room theme will be ‘Seaside’ and in the recommendations tab you’ll find plenty of furniture and items that match that theme, including a Safety Ring and Surfboard. However, you can always deviate from the recommended furniture if you’ve got a vision – the guests really don’t seem to mind what you do!
VIP room themes
VIP room themes give you a bit more freedom as, when you invite a VIP guest to stay, you’ll be able to choose from a long list of themes as inspiration. You can even choose not to have a theme and make your own if you’d like to!
Some themes are VIP exclusives, you can tell which ones these are by the small icon next to their name in the list. We strongly advise doing these VIP themes as you can gain access to some of their recommended furniture through Gram’s shop when she updates it.
You can decorate VIP rooms in exactly the same way as basic rooms – you can stick to the recommended furniture for the theme, or get creative and make your own vision.
